Jesus’ Employment Model – Co-Owners, Not Co-Workers Or Employees

February 28th, 2010 by Egbert F Bhatty

Jesus did not hire Workers to send forth His Message.

Or, Employees.

He chose Co-Owners.  The Apostles.

To take His work forward.

What’s the difference?

And, what difference does it make?

The difference is this.

A Worker, a Co-Worker, an Employee — is a Hired Hand.  In Jesus’ words – an Hireling.

A Co-Owner is, well – a Co-Owner.

Jesus talked about the Hireling in John 10:11-16.

“But he that is an hireling…..whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth…..”  [John 10:12 KJV – King James Version]

Why fleeth?

“The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.”  [John 10:13 KJV]

Because an Hireling – Workers or Employees — careth not for the sheep, Jesus did not hire Workers or Employees to take His Message to the world.

He knew that at the first sign of Affliction, the Hirelings, any Workers and Employees he would have recruited, would flee.

Leaving His flock to be scattered and slaughtered.

A Co-Owner, on the other hand, cares.

And, that is why He handpicked the Apostles.

And, made them Co-Owners of His Mission.

Jesus talked about Co-Owners, also, in John 10:11-16.

Likening them to the Good Shepherd.

“…..the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”  [John 10:11 KJV]

As the Apostles did.

The willingness to sacrifice their all is the essential characteristic of Co-Owners.

Being co-equal with the Owner, Co-Owners, like the Apostles, give everything.

Their Imagination.  Their Innovation.  Their Physical strength.  Their Spiritual energy.

Which led to the Surge of Christianity in its early days.

Christian Businesses, and Christian Businessmen, fail to Surge because they do not adopt Jesus’ Employment model.

They take in Hirelings.  Whose sole interest is their own welfare.

And, not Co-Workers.

Who, like Christian Business Owners, and Christian Businessmen, and the Apostles, work to the Glory and Honor of Our Lord.
